Go Green with Colonial Marble SurfaceTech Resurfacing

Refinishing has many aspects that support the
Green Initiative. Increasing the usable life of your kitchen or bathroom is healthier for the environment than disposing of these materials. The
National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) estimates that the total waste generated from improvements or replacement home remodeling projects, to be 31.9 million tons of garbage per year. It is interesting to note that
more materials go into the landfills during a remodeling project than during new construction. Fixtures such as bathtubs, sinks, cabinets, kitchen countertops, and bathroom vanity tops are simply discarded. Refinishing becomes a welcome alternative to replacement for the environmentally conscious consumer.
Replacing composite countertops means trees are used to create the substrates which support the laminate or solid surface materials. If you choose granite, there are enormous energy costs to mining the stone, transporting it around the world, and fabricating it for your home.
By resurfacing existing countertops, you limit the carbon footprint of your remodeling project and add many years of usable life to your existing countertops.
In the bathroom, replacing tubs, showers, and sinks means that those materials end up in the landfill as well. Things such as plaster, wire lath, drywall, and concrete backer board which support your tile walls are often structurally sound and do not need to be replaced. Older tubs are often removed and replaced because of their color or just because their surface is
dull or chipped. These older, higher quality tubs hold heat very well which can save energy.
By resurfacing tubs, tile and sinks, you not only save time and money, but you help to save the environment as well.
